3 Tasty Homemade Fish Treats for Cats

Cats love fish, and there’s nothing better than a pet parent getting to feed their furry friend the food they love. Fish is an excellent source of protein and essential amino acids, but it’s important that you feed your feline a balanced diet. Give these homemade fish treats a try if you want to whip up something delicious for your cat.

1. Salmon cat treats

  • Ingredients
You’ll need half a can of salmon, with the juice, half cup cornmeal or oatmeal, half cup whole-wheat flour, half cup milk, one egg, beaten, one tablespoon of cooking oil, and water, as required.
  • Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, use your hands to combine the salmon, corn or oatmeal, milk, egg, and cooking oil in a bowl. Mix these well, and then slowly add the wheat flour and knead for a few minutes. Roll it out as a thin disc, about 1/4 inch in thickness, and place it on a lined baking sheet. You can use a tiny cookie cutter to cut the salmon mix into bite-sized pieces or use a sharp knife to cut through the dough and make little squares. Bake the pieces in the oven for about 10 minutes, or leave them in for 2-3 more minutes until they turn crisp. Cool and store them in an airtight container. Your salmon cat treats are now ready for your feline friends.

2. Sardine cat treats

  • Ingredients
You will need 2 tablespoons of whole-wheat flour, 1 can of sardine, one cup wheat germ, half a cup milk powder, and one tablespoon of coconut oil for this recipe.
  • Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a large bowl, throw in all the ingredients, and mix them well with your hands. You will have a damp dough in a few minutes; roll out tiny balls from this dough, arrange them on a lined baking sheet, and bake for about 15 minutes or until they turn crisp. Ensure that they don’t burn. Homemade omega-3-rich fish treats are ready for your cat.

3. Tuna cat treats

  • Ingredients
Grab half a cup tuna in water (drained), half cup oat flour, one beaten egg, one tablespoon dried catnip, and one tablespoon olive oil to put this dish together.
  • Directions
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add all ingredients to a food processor and make a pliable dough that’s not too runny or sticky. Then, make small balls from this dough and flatten them into tiny cookies. Use a fork to make a crisscross pattern on each cookie and arrange them neatly on the baking sheet to ensure even baking. Bake for around 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are slightly brown. Cool and keep them refrigerated in an airtight container. Share these homemade fish treats with your cats once a day or a few times a week.
