3 Tasty DIY Foods for Dogs

Dogs need good food to get all the necessary nutrients. Instead of just having to rely on kibbles, you can prepare simple foods for your pet at home. Here are three do-it-yourself (DIY) meals that will make your dog jump with your joy:

1. Beef stew
This is the best way to add proteins and vitamins to your dog’s diet. In order to make this, you will need a pound of beef, a small sweet potato, half a cup of diced carrot and green beans each, half a cup of water, half a cup of flour, and one tablespoon of olive oil. Microwave the sweet potato to make it tender and then dice it. The beef will have to be sliced into bite-size chunks and cooked in the oil over a medium flame for about 10 minutes. You can mix the drip from the beef with flour and water. Whisk it thoroughly to get a thick consistency and then add in the meat and veggies. Cook till the carrots turn tender, and serve.

2. Grain-free chicken jerky
If you want a quick chicken meal for your dog, then you can make these simple jerky strips. All you need is about a pound of chicken breast. Start by preheating the oven to about 200ºF and work on removing all the fat from the chicken meat. You can then cut it into strips that are about 1/8 inch thick. Bake the chicken slices with a baking sheet for about two hours till they become dry and hard. Flip them over and wait for the other side to dry completely. Once they cool down, you can start handing them out to your dog and watch its face light up.

3. Turkey and rice
This is an easy-to-prepare recipe that you can stack up as frozen food and then thaw for your dog whenever it’s time for a feed. This is one of the most balanced and nutritious meals that you can cook up for your dog. You will need a cup and a half of brown rice, two carrots, one zucchini, three pounds of ground turkey, half a cup of green peas, three cups of baby spinach, and one tablespoon of olive oil. You can shred the carrot and zucchini, and chop the spinach beforehand. Start by cooking the rice and then set it aside. In a stockpot, heat the oil, add in the turkey, and cook it for about five minutes. Once this is done, add in all your previously prepped elements and allow the mixture to be cooked for another five minutes. Let it cool down fully before serving.

Please note that you must factor in your dog’s food sensitivities and/or allergies before preparing any of the above meals or adding any new ingredient to its diet.
